There are so many lovely books out there for kids. My two go-to people for books for children are Ramya Abhinand and Anamika Agnihotri. And of course, Sunita Saldanha who reviews books for children. Today I decided to share my own research into the 6 best books that teach kids kindness.
6 Best Books that Teach Kids Kindness
A small act of kindness can change the world- you know that, and in the world that we live in today, being kind is more like a necessity. If you’re a parent who’s raising a fast growing kid, here’s what you can do to make sure your little one grows up into an adult who is kind, compassionate, empathetic and helpful.
Get your hands on any of these books that focus on kindness as a virtue, and make it a part of your little one’s bedtime reading routine!
Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

Don’t be surprised if you find this one on the top of the list among most moms. Have You Filled a Bucket Today is one of the most popular children’s book that touches important values such as kindness, compassion and appreciation of others. Through the story, children learn how their actions affect how other people feel, which in turn, teaches them the importance of developing kindness.
Those Shoes

Those Shoes is a story that teaches growing children a number of important values apart from kindness. Through the story, kids learn how to be grateful for what they have, how to share what they have with those around them- particularly the less fortunate ones, and how developing the spirit of giving can end up making them happier than they were before!
The Snail & the Whale

The tale of The Snail and the Whale is another powerful one that teaches children about how kindness is more often than not, repaid by kindness. The story also celebrates the unusual friendship between a whale and a snail, and highlights how someone small (the snail) has the power to bring about a big change too!
Enemy Pie

Enemy Pie is one of those beautiful stories that teach children how to let go of judgements and assumptions they may have about one another and learn to accept each other. It also teaches children about how they can nurture valuable relationships if they treat each other with respect and love!
I Walk with Vanessa

I Walk with Vanessa may be a wordless picture book, but it conveys so much through its pages! The story goes around a new girl Vanessa, who is lonely, walking alone, when she’s mocked by a boy. Vanessa gets upset and runs back home, and the entire incident is witnessed by a girl who decides to walk with Vanessa the next day to school. The book shows how simple acts of kindness can be powerful, and can make a person feel stronger, better.
Maddi’s Fridge

Maddi’s Fridge is another similar tale that helps kids develop empathy and compassion, and learn the values of kindness and helpfulness. The story revolves around two friends Sofia and Maddi who attend the same school. One day, while looking for a snack in Maddi’s fridge, Sofia discovers how Maddi spends most of her days hungry.
The book can also teach kids the importance of using resources (including food) wisely and develop the spirit of helping those around them who may be less fortunate.
Thanks for this list! These books will make great gifts—bookmarking this post.
This post is on my favourite topic which is picture books. Therefore I was compelled to take a break out of my MIA period to scroll up and down this post repeatedly. We have read 2 out of the 6 books here – Those shoes and Snail and the whale. Have you filled your bucket has forever been on my wishlist. I have to get rest of the books too.
Thank you, Corinne, for giving me a mention in the post 😊
