Setting an intention to create is a powerful practice that can help you focus your energy and efforts on achieving your creative goals.
I’ve been reading about the power of setting intentions and trying it out for myself. Last month, I wrote a post on Everyday Gyaan about setting intentions mindfully. I’ve been working on setting an intention to create every day.
“Every moment of your life is infinitely creative, and the universe is endlessly bountiful. Just put forth a clear enough request, and everything your heart desires must come to you.”
— Mahatma Gandhi

Setting An Intention To Create
Setting an intention to create involves clarifying your goals and directing your energy and focus towards the creative process.
Whether you’re an artist, writer, musician, or pursuing any other form of creative expression, here are some steps to help you set and work towards your creative intentions:
- Identify your passion: Determine what you are passionate about and what type of creative project or endeavor you want to pursue. Whether it’s writing, painting, music, photography, or any other form of creativity, it’s essential to be clear about your interests.
- Define your purpose: Ask yourself why you want to create. Understanding your purpose and the deeper meaning behind your creative pursuits will give you a strong foundation to build upon.
- Set specific goals: Establish clear and achievable goals for your creative project. Break them down into smaller, manageable tasks, so you have a roadmap to follow.
- Visualize the outcome: Imagine the end result of your creative endeavor. Visualizing success can motivate and inspire you to take action.
- Create a positive affirmation: Develop a positive statement or mantra that reaffirms your commitment to the creative process. For example, “I am a talented and creative [your creative pursuit], and I am committed to expressing my unique vision.”
- Create a conducive environment: Set up a space that supports your creative work. Ensure it is free from distractions and clutter, and fill it with tools and materials that inspire you.
- Establish a routine: Dedicate regular time to your creative practice. Consistency is crucial in building momentum and making progress.
- Overcome self-doubt: Acknowledge that self-doubt is a natural part of the creative process. Learn to recognize and challenge negative thoughts, replacing them with positive affirmations and constructive feedback.
- Embrace failure and mistakes: Understand that creativity involves experimentation and learning from mistakes. Don’t be afraid to try new things and view failures as opportunities for growth.
- Seek support and inspiration: Surround yourself with like-minded individuals or a creative community. Engage in discussions, attend workshops, or collaborate with others to fuel your creativity.
- Practice mindfulness and self-care: Take care of your mental and physical well-being. Engaging in mindfulness practices, meditation, or other relaxation techniques can help enhance creativity.
- Celebrate progress: Recognize and celebrate the milestones you achieve during your creative journey. Acknowledging your progress will keep you motivated to continue creating.
Remember that setting an intention is just the beginning. To bring your creative intentions to life, it’s crucial to take consistent action, maintain discipline, and stay open to new ideas and possibilities. Enjoy the creative process and allow it to bring fulfillment and joy into your life.
Wishing you a magical and creative month ahead!
Just what I needed to read. Thanks dear Cory.
Wow! That seems like a really intense process. I’m more of a dabbler when it comes to creative things (see my post this week 🙂 ). I don’t think I have any passions or purposes – just lots of little interests that I flow in and out of. I’ll be interested to see where your creative intentions lead you….
