Activity 2 : Imagine You’re An Alien
Imagine that you are an alien, living on another planet. You have a different language; you use different words for things.
Which planet would you be from?
What would these words mean in your new language? There are no wrong words because you are creating your own language. (for e.g I would call the sun “therma” or “xanaki”)
Sun
Water
Boy
Girl
Hot
Ice cream
Cold drinks
Sand
Breeze
Now imagine that you have arrived on Earth in summer and are writing a description of what you see and feel.
Think of all the things you would see on a summer day on earth. What does the sky look like? What are the people wearing? How are the trees?
What are the smells you would get? Which flowers would bloom in summer? Do you get the smell of any particular fruit? How do the people smell?
How would you feel? How does the heat make you feel? How does splashing in the water make you feel? How does eating an ice cream make you feel?
What are the sounds you would hear? People on the beach? In the playgrounds? Sounds at home?
Use these and the new words you have created to write your description.
I would probable start my description like this:
I have reached the planet Earth. It is summer here and the xanaki is very hot.
It’s your turn now. And here’s a special summer treat.
Bye till next week!
