You must wonder what I mean with a title like what you want wants you! Don’t worry, it’s all good and isn’t as ominous as it sounds!
I’m a great believer in the fact that each of us has a calling or vocation in life. Now things might change, from time to time, depending on the season of life we’re in. But there’s one central theme that runs through our life. Something that beckons you. Something that moves you. When you do that, you feel you are at your best, most joyful, most satisfied self.
What You Want Wants You
There is an old Quaker saying that goes, ‘Let your life speak’. And life does speak to us. But do we listen? I know I didn’t.
For me, as a young girl, I was the happiest surrounded by books, in a quiet place and scribbling in a notebook. That’s what I really wanted. But it took me a long, long time and several career moves and life changes to arrive where I am right now – happily surrounded by books and writing in a quiet place!
Vocation comes from listening. That insight is hidden in the word vocation itself, which is rooted in the Latin for “voice.” As you listen you will realise that what you truly want wants you too. And you’ll find that you do have the inner resources to create this reality for yourself.

“When you are a creator, you will discover the thing that you want, wants you. You would never have a desire for something unless you already had the capacity to make it happen.”
—Simon T. Bailey
You have a unique vocation, because you are unique. Listen. Follow your calling.

“What you are seeking is seeking you.” – Rumi
This resonates in all its entirety and Liz Gilbert also talks about it in Big Magic.
Lots of love.
Such a nice quote from Simon T Bailey. I see many people enjoy something but hesitate to pursue as they think they are not good at it. I learned from my experience that everyone has a unique way of learning a craft and we
enjoy and learn a lot by leaving behind the hesitation.
Very true, Corinne. When we are ready to listen to that inner voice and be brave to follow its tune, wonders happen. 🙂

So important to listen to what life is trying to tell us always. We don’t. Mostly. Your post is a great reminder to sometimes just quiet all the noise and listen. More often than not, it’s the Universe telling us what we really want for ourselves. I’ve been there, and like most people, also learnt it the hard way.
Love that and the universe watches out. What you want comes to you in some shape or other. Some times I wonder if people don’t pay attention to listening to their inner voice. What do ‘they’ want. So important part of life.

This is so true. Life keeps telling us things, nudging us towards our true heart’s desire, but we have forgotten to listen. As I read this post, I remembered that hymn, “Take time to listen, take courage to obey, the inner voice is calling calling you.”
Ah I remember that hymn too! And yes, it fits.
